Neymar Jr. has no plans to pursue another profession immediately after retiring from football. The Brazilian star intends to spend the first year of his retirement exactly as he pleases—playing football whenever he feels like it, or doing absolutely nothing at all. He shared these thoughts regarding his post-retirement life.
Although Neymar has already returned to international football, he has yet to make an official statement regarding the conclusion of his club career. Nevertheless, he has given some thought to what his life might look like once he hangs up his boots. In a recent interview on the Brazilian program *Varanda Gourmet*, he discussed his retirement plans, his desire to spend time with his children, and his relationship with football beyond the pitch—as reported by the Brazilian media outlet *Globo*.
Speaking about his retirement plans, Neymar explained that he wants to spend the first year free from any constraints—without the demands of rigorous professional training or fitness requirements. With a laugh, he said, “For the first year after retiring, I won’t do anything. My mindset will be: ‘I feel like playing football today, so I’ll go play,’ or ‘I don’t feel like doing anything today, so I won’t do anything at all.'”
Despite his deep love for the sport, Neymar mentioned in the interview that he does not particularly enjoy watching football matches on television. Reflecting on his years in Paris and Barcelona, he said his teammates often watched football during their free time, but he preferred not to spend hours watching matches on television.
According to Neymar, while he loves playing on the field, watching matches on television can feel monotonous to him. He even admitted that it pains him to see his close friends perform poorly in a match.
Beyond the demands of his football career, spending time with his children remains a vital part of Neymar’s daily life. Although he has very little free time due to his children’s classes and his own physical therapy sessions, Neymar still makes an effort to engage in activities that bring joy to his children.
The Brazilian star also shared his love of watching animated movies alongside his daughter. She is a big fan of *Shrek* and *The Grinch*, so Neymar often sits down to watch them with her.
He says, “My life is very busy. I still have to attend physical therapy sessions and participate in various classes. Even so, I make time for my children; I try to do the things they enjoy.”
While he has some ideas about life after retirement, Neymar has not yet confirmed exactly when he will bid farewell to football. In February of this year, he noted that rather than focusing on a long-term career plan, he prefers to take things one year at a time.
His current contract with Santos runs until December 2026; therefore, he has yet to decide whether he will continue playing or bring his career to an end. However, the 34-year-old star has made it clear that he intends to spend the first year of his retirement exactly as he pleases.
